Are you hosting a destination wedding right here in Chicago? Believe it or not, we are a destination city for many couples! If it is because they grew up here, met here, or went to school here, there is no arguing that we are a great city!

Asking people to travel to a different city for your wedding can be a lot to ask. They have to buy airfare, hotel stay, wedding gifts, and probably something to wear to the wedding (let’s face it, we all don’t have wedding attire lying around). However, with such a great city at your finger tips it is easy to give your guests a million things to do to fill their weekend. For now, we will offer you twelve activities for your guests to try, but the options truly are endless!
- Riverwalk’s new addition
- Observations Deck (If they are feeling adventurous)
- Boat Rentals on the Lake Michigan
- Rooftop Brunch at the Godfrey Hotel
- Cub’s Game
- Streeterville Food Tour
- Grant Park
- State Street Shopping
- Millenium Park
- Art Institute
- Shedd Aquarium
- Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon
All of these places and activities offer fun for every member of your guest list. Some inside and some outside, since Chicago weather is not exactly consistent. These are things you can either plan for everyone or give people the option to go on their own. Lots of guests will make this wedding weekend a vacation, especially over holiday weekends such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day and Thanksgiving. All of these weekends are long weekends and are the perfect time to take a few extra days to explore the city.
You can also introduce your guests to new things with your pre-wedding events. Have your rehearsal dinner somewhere unique that still allows them to try something new. For example, Navy Pier is one of Chicago’s top tourist’s spots. Choose a nice restaurant for dinner and then let people walk around, they may even catch the firework show. If a lot of your guests are from out of town a Chicago style pizza place, such as Lou Malnati’s or Gino’s East, would be great spots for a rehearsal dinner as well. There is nothing more fitting than Chicago style pizza to welcome your guests to our great city!

Even if you are from Chicago and so are your guests, these are all great activities for your guests to do. Weddings are always a great reason to take a weekend getaway, even if it is only a few miles away. Chicagoans can very easily take this city for granted, so give them a reason to explore a little!
The number of things to do in Chicago can all depend on when you are having your wedding! If you are having your wedding in December your guests will have a chance to see the Walnut Room, the Light parade on Michigan Ave, the Christkindlmarket. If you are having your wedding over Saint Patrick’s Day Parade weekend your guests can enjoy many different Brunch deals and watching the river turn green! In the summer month’s festivals, movies in the park and concerts are a usual occurrence in Chicago. In August we host the air and water show which really is a cool experience for everyone.
I can go on for days about all that there is to do in Chicago, but you may get bored. So do some research on fun activities going on over your wedding weekend and put together an “Attractions” page in your invitations! Trusts me your guests do not want to miss out on deep dish pizza and a cold 312 (Chicago traffic I think they can do without)!
